Stretching from Place Royale to Rue Mc- Gill, Place d’Youville owes its elongated shape to its location fifa 15 ultimate team coins on top of the bed of the Rivière Saint-Pierre, which was can- alized in 1832.

In the heart of Place d’Youville stands the former no. 3 fire station, one of Qué- bec’s rare examples of Flemish-inspired architecture. The station is now home to the Centre d’Histoire de Montréal * ($4.50; Tue-Sun 10am tto 5pm; 335 Place d’Youville, p514-872-3207, www.ville.monttreal.qc.ca/ chm). A lovely exhibit showcasing vari- ous objects relating Montréal’s history is presented on the first floor. Thanks to lively presentations, visitors can fol- low the city’s evolution and learn about significant events, such as Expo 67, discover daily life in various eras, hear about major strikes in the city and see how several heritage buildings were de- molished. Sound effects, among other things, play a particularly important role here, as you can hear taped testimonies of Montrealers of various origins talking about their city. On the top floors are temporary exhibits, as well as a glass covered overpass from which you can admire Old Montréal.

This marked the end of Montréal’s political vocation; Canada’s Parliament was sub- sequently moved to Toronto, then Qué- bec City and, finally, Ottawa in 1857.
